About UsOur Journey So FarThe Well started with a prayer meeting with just 4 people: Jimmy & Helen and Kevin & Irene. After months of weekly, faithful prayer other people began to join us. One catalyst early on was the arrival in October 2005 of the 3 Month Discipleship Team also known as 3DT. This team comprised of 5 members; Paul, Matt, Niroshini and James & Sarah. The next step was organising a mission to Blackpool called BOMB (The Big One Mission Blackpool). This involved rubbish removal, community clean up, open air work and leafleting. The highlight was an event which took place at Blackpool Football Club with guest speaker Noel Fellowes who wrote the book 'Killing Time.' About 130 people came, many unconnected with any church and many responded to the message of the gospel. On the back of the mission it was decided to launch the church with just 15 core members. So, on Sunday 10th September 2006 the church held its first public meeting at The Solaris Centre supported by many friends from The Hope Church in Manchester. The Alpha Course was the focus for the next 10 weeks of church. This was a great way of making it easy for new people to join and helped The Well to be an outward looking church from the beginning. Growth was slow during the first part of 2007 but a pattern was already starting to emerge. The Well was gathering people from all over the Fylde Coast. We had a great week of mission in September 2007 with Christian Rap Group 'MJK' (Make Jesus Known). This included a Fun Day at the grounds of The Solaris centre which attracted hundred's of visitors. On the back of this mission we hired a large function room at The Counting House pub for our second Alpha Course. We had a good number of people each week and some are now part of the church. In 2008 the church gathered pace. We had a fantastic 'gift day' where we raised over £6000 which enabled us to purchase a 15 seater minibus and had the Well logo blazed all over the bus! We were also able to subsidise the cost of the youth going away to a Christian camp called 'Newday.' MJK served us brilliantly by coming to Blackpool 3 times in '08 with their new stage to share good news on the streets of Blackpool outside St Johns Church. This led to an Alpha launch event at The West Coast Rock Cafe followed by our third and most fruitful Alpha Course. In September the meeting time on Sunday was changed from afternoons to 10:30am which was a wake up call in more ways than one! New people have been added to the church of all ages but particularly those in their 20's. 2009 is already a very exciting year for The Well. In January The Well became a congregation of Ansdell Baptist Church bringing strength, depth, friendship and resources as we seek to '...press on to what is ahead.' On Easter Sunday we had the priviledge of baptising four new beleivers, 3 of which have become Christians in the last year! In the June we hosted evangelist, Don Egan, who spoke at 3 consecutive healing meetings during our mission 'Do you believe in Miracles?' We distributed 10.000 leaflets and broadcast the meeting on local radio station, Wave FM. We had many guests to the meetings and saw some significant healings. The greatest miracle was when people responded to the gospel to receive Jesus into their lives. In July around 30 of us travelled to Soul Survivour in Stafford. Despite the rain we had a good time enjoying the worship and teaching. The church continues to gain strength and depth as we approach 2010. We look forward to new people joining us, to expand our ministry to Blackpool & the Fylde Coast and to have a permanent place to meet!
